Brewing Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Water

Begin by heating 900 ml of water in a large pot until it reaches approximately 70°C (158°F).

  2. 2

    Mash the Barley

Add 250 g of barley malt to the heated water. Stir gently to ensure all the grains are submerged. Maintain the temperature at around 65°C (149°F) for 60 minutes. This process allows the enzymes in the malt to convert starches into sugars.

  3. 3

    Sparging

After mashing, rinse the grains by adding more hot water (around 75°C/167°F) until you collect about 1 liter of liquid in a separate container. This process extracts more sugars from the grains.

  4. 4

    Boiling the Wort

Pour the collected liquid (now called wort) back into the pot and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, add 15 g of hops. Boil for 60 minutes, stirring occasionally. This step adds bitterness and aroma to the beer.

  5. 5

    Cooling the Wort

After boiling, cool the wort quickly using a wort chiller or by placing the pot in an ice bath. The temperature should be reduced to around 20°C (68°F).

  6. 6

    Fermentation

Transfer the cooled wort into a sanitized fermentation vessel. Add 10 g of yeast and stir gently to mix. Seal the vessel with an airlock and let it ferment in a dark, cool place for 7-14 days.

  7. 7

    Bottling

Once fermentation is complete, siphon the beer into sanitized bottles, leaving some space at the top. Seal the bottles with caps and let them carbonate at room temperature for about 1-2 weeks.

  8. 8

    Enjoy

Chill the bottles in the refrigerator before serving. Pour into a glass and enjoy your homemade Heineken-style beer!
