Brewing Directions
- 1
Prepare the Water
Begin by heating 900 ml of water in a large pot until it reaches approximately 70°C (158°F).
- 2
Mash the Barley
Add 250 g of barley malt to the heated water. Stir gently to ensure all the grains are submerged. Maintain the temperature at around 65°C (149°F) for 60 minutes. This process allows the enzymes in the malt to convert starches into sugars.
- 3
Sparging
After mashing, rinse the grains by adding more hot water (around 75°C/167°F) until you collect about 1 liter of liquid in a separate container. This process extracts more sugars from the grains.
- 4
Boiling the Wort
Pour the collected liquid (now called wort) back into the pot and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, add 15 g of hops. Boil for 60 minutes, stirring occasionally. This step adds bitterness and aroma to the beer.
- 5
Cooling the Wort
After boiling, cool the wort quickly using a wort chiller or by placing the pot in an ice bath. The temperature should be reduced to around 20°C (68°F).
- 6
Fermentation
Transfer the cooled wort into a sanitized fermentation vessel. Add 10 g of yeast and stir gently to mix. Seal the vessel with an airlock and let it ferment in a dark, cool place for 7-14 days.
