Cocktail
Macadamia Simple (if making your own macadamia liqueur/infusion)
Method
Macadamia Simple (optional house-made macadamia liqueur)
- 1
Infuse
Lightly crush 1 cup raw macadamia nuts (use a mortar and pestle or bash in a zip-top bag). Place nuts in a clean jar and cover with 2 cups vodka. Seal and store in a cool, dark place for 3–7 days, shaking once daily. Taste after 3 days and continue until desired macadamia aroma is achieved (up to 10 days).
- 2
Make simple syrup and combine
Strain the infused vodka through a fine mesh or coffee filter into a clean container, discarding solids. Make a simple syrup by bringing 0.5 cup water and 0.5 cup sugar to a simmer until sugar dissolves; cool to room temperature. Combine 1 cup of the macadamia-infused vodka with the cooled simple syrup to taste (start with equal parts and adjust sweetness). This yields a macadamia liqueur; store chilled.
Cocktail Preparation

- 4
Combine ingredients
In a mixing glass or cocktail shaker filled with ice, pour 1.5 oz gin, 0.75 oz white vermouth, 0.75 oz macadamia liqueur (or macadamia-infused amaro), 0.25 oz macadamia orgeat (optional for extra almond-like nuttiness), and 2 dashes orange bitters.

- 6
Prepare glass
Empty the chilled Old Fashioned glass of ice water if used and place one large ice cube or sphere in the glass.
- 7
Strain and garnish
Strain the cocktail over the large ice cube. Express an orange peel over the drink by holding it skin-side down above the glass and giving it a firm twist to release oils, then rub the peel's rim along the glass and drop it into the drink. Optionally, skewer a toasted macadamia nut and rest it on the rim or float it on the ice.
- 8
Serve
Serve immediately. Sip slowly to enjoy the layered bitterness of the Negroni with the round, creamy macadamia note. Adjust future batches: add 0.25 oz more macadamia liqueur for more nuttiness or reduce gin by 0.25 oz for a softer profile.
