Lychee Martini
Method
Lychee Martini
- 1
Chill glass
Place a martini or coupe glass in the freezer for about 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to ensure the drink stays cold.
- 2
Prepare lychee garnish
If using canned lychee, remove one lychee and drain well. Optionally pat dry with a paper towel. If you like, stuff the lychee with a small piece of lime peel or a cranberry for visual contrast.
- 3
Combine ingredients
In a cocktail shaker add 6 large ice cubes, 2 oz vodka, 0.5 oz lychee liqueur (or lychee syrup), 0.75 oz lychee juice, 0.25 oz fresh lime juice and 0.25 tsp simple syrup if you prefer a sweeter drink.
- 4
Shake
Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds until the outside of the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosted. This both chills and dilutes the cocktail to the proper balance.
- 5
Strain and serve
Empty the ice or water from the chilled glass. Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled martini/coupe glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove small ice shards and any pulp.
- 6
Garnish and finish
Skewer the drained canned lychee on a cocktail pick and rest it on the rim or drop it into the drink. Add a mint sprig alongside the lychee if desired. Serve immediately.
