Method
Chicken Marinade
- 1
Prepare the Marinade
In a large bowl, combine buttermilk, hot sauce, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Whisk until well mixed.
- 2
Marinate the Chicken
Add the chicken thighs to the marinade and ensure they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or preferably overnight.
Breading
- 3
Prepare the Breading
In a large shallow dish, combine all-purpose flour, cornstarch, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
- 4
Bread the Chicken
Remove the marinated chicken from the fridge. One at a time, take each piece of chicken and dredge it in the flour mixture, ensuring it is fully coated. Shake off any excess flour.
Cooking
- 5
Fry the Chicken
In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the breaded chicken pieces, cooking in batches if necessary. Fry for about 5-7 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).

Slaw
- 7
Prepare the Slaw
In a large bowl, combine shredded cabbage and shredded carrot. In a separate bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and toss until well combined. Refrigerate until ready to use.
