Cake Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, sift together 1.75 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 cups of granulated sugar, 0.75 cups of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1.5 tsp of baking powder, 1.5 tsp of baking soda, and 1 tsp of salt until well combined.
- 3
Combine Wet Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together 2 large eggs, 1 cup of whole milk, 0.5 cups of vegetable oil, and 2 tsp of vanilla extract until smooth.
- 4
Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Then carefully stir in 1 cup of boiling water until the batter is smooth.
- 5
Bake the Cake
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 6
Cool the Cakes
Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Frosting Preparation
- 7
Prepare the Frosting
In a mixing bowl, beat 1 cup of unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add 0.5 cups of unsweetened cocoa powder and 3 cups of powdered sugar, alternating with 0.5 cups of whole milk, mixing until smooth and fluffy.
- 8
Add Flavor
Mix in 1 tsp of vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
- 9
Frost the Cake
Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
