Preparing the Burger Patty

Season the Beef
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Mix gently to avoid overworking the meat.

Form the Patties
Divide the seasoned beef into two equal portions and shape each portion into a round patty, about ¾ inch thick.

Prepare the Toppings
While the patties are cooking, wash and dry the lettuce. Slice the tomato into thick slices.

Toast the Buns
If desired, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster for a minute until golden.

Place a patty on the bottom half of each bun. Add a layer of lettuce, a slice of tomato, and drizzle the special sauce over the top. Finish with the top half of the bun.
