Pasta

Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Once cooked, drain the pasta and set aside.

Cheese Sauce Preparation

  1. 2

    Make the Roux

In the same pot, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the all-purpose flour, stirring constantly for about 2 minutes until the mixture is lightly golden.

  2. 3

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens and starts to bubble, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 4

    Incorporate Cheeses

Reduce heat to low and add the grated smoked Gouda and sharp cheddar cheeses. Stir until the cheeses are completely melted and the sauce is smooth.

  4. 5

    Season the Sauce

Add salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to the cheese sauce. Stir well to combine.

Combine and Bake

  1. 6

    Mix Pasta and Sauce

Add the cooked elbow macaroni to the cheese sauce, stirring until all the pasta is thoroughly coated.

  2. 7

    Prepare Topping

In a separate bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, and olive oil. Mix until the breadcrumbs are evenly coated with oil.

  3. 8

    Transfer to Baking Dish

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the macaroni and cheese mixture to a greased baking dish. Evenly sprinkle the breadcrumb topping over the macaroni.

  4. 9

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
