Method

Steak Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Steak

Take the ribeye steak and season both sides generously with salt and black pepper.

  2. 2

    Heat the Pan

In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.

  3. 3

    Cook the Steak

Place the steak in the hot skillet. For a medium-rare steak, cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side without moving it.

  4. 4

    Add Flavor (Optional)

If desired, add crushed garlic cloves and butter to the pan after flipping the steak. Baste the steak with the melted butter for added flavor.

  5. 5

    Check Doneness

Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes on the other side or until the desired doneness is reached. Use a meat thermometer for accuracy (130°F for medium-rare).

  6. 6

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.

Mashed Potatoes Preparation

  1. 7

    Boil the Potatoes

Peel and cut the potatoes into quarters. Place them in a large pot, cover with water, and add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil and cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  2. 8

    Drain the Potatoes

Once the potatoes are fork-tender, drain them in a colander.

  3. 9

    Mash the Potatoes

Return the drained potatoes to the pot. Add butter, milk, salt, and black pepper. Mash the potatoes until smooth and creamy.

  4. 10

    Serve

Transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving bowl and serve alongside the ribeye steak.
