Method
Cooking Pasta

Boil Water
In a large pot, bring a pot of salted water to a boil.

Cook Pasta
Add the elbow macaroni to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 7-8 minutes.

Drain Pasta
Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander and set aside.
Making Cheese Sauce

Add Flour
Once the butter is melted, whisk in the flour, cooking for 1-2 minutes until it forms a roux.

Add Milk
Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps, and continue to cook until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

Add Cheese
Reduce the heat to low and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.

Season Sauce
Add salt, black pepper, and mustard powder to the cheese sauce, mixing well to combine.
Combining

Mix Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until the pasta is well coated.
Optional Topping

Prepare Topping
If desired, mix breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan cheese together.

Bake
Transfer the macaroni and cheese to a baking dish, sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture on top, and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
