Preparation

  1. 1

    Trim the Beans

Using a sharp knife, trim the ends of the French green beans by cutting off the stem ends. If desired, you can also cut the beans in half for shorter pieces.

  2. 2

    Blanch the Beans

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Once boiling, add the trimmed French green beans and blanch for 3-4 minutes until they are bright green and tender-crisp. Immediately transfer the beans to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Sauté the Beans

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not browned.

  2. 4

    Add Green Beans

Drain the blanched green beans and add them to the skillet. Toss to coat them in the garlic-infused oil.

  3. 5

    Season the Beans

Sprinkle the salt and freshly ground black pepper over the green beans. Continue to sauté for another 3-4 minutes until the beans are heated through.

  4. 6

    Finish with Lemon Juice

Remove the skillet from heat and drizzle the lemon juice over the beans. Toss again to combine.

Serving

  1. 7

    Garnish (Optional)

If desired, sprinkle slivered almonds over the sautéed French green beans for added crunch and flavor.

  2. 8

    Serve

Transfer the French green beans to a serving platter and enjoy warm as a side dish.
