Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and grease four ramekins with butter. Dust with cocoa powder to prevent sticking.

  2. 2

    Melt the Chocolate and Butter

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and dark chocolate over low heat, stirring frequently until smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Mixing the Batter

  1. 3

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until evenly mixed.

  2. 4

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

To the melted chocolate and butter mixture, add the eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  3. 5

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the chocolate mixture until just combined. Do not overmix.

Baking

  1. 6

    Fill Ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.

  2. 7

    Bake

Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.

  3. 8

    Cool Slightly

Remove from the oven and let them cool for 1 minute. Then, carefully invert each ramekin onto a plate.

Serving

  1. 9

    Serve

Serve immediately with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top or beside the lava cake.
