Method
Preparing Ladyfingers
- 1
Brew Espresso
Brew the espresso coffee and allow it to cool to room temperature. If using coffee liqueur, mix it with the cooled espresso.
- 2
Soak Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger in the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not overly soggy. Arrange them in a single layer at the bottom of a rectangular dish (approximately 9x13 inches).
Making Mascarpone Cream
- 3
Whip Heavy Cream
In a large mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Set aside.
- 4
Prepare Egg Mixture
In another bowl, whisk the egg yolks and granulated sugar together until pale and creamy. Add the mascarpone cheese and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
- 5
Combine Mixtures
Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture in three additions, being careful not to deflate the cream.
Assembling Tiramisu
- 6
Layer the Cream
Spread half of the mascarpone cream mixture over the layer of soaked ladyfingers in the dish.
- 7
Add Second Layer
Repeat the process with another layer of soaked ladyfingers followed by the remaining mascarpone cream.
Finishing Touches
- 8
Chill
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
- 9
Serve
Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and sprinkle with dark chocolate shavings, if desired. Cut into squares and enjoy!
