Tomato Sauce

Ham & Toppings

Method

Prepare Tomato Sauce

  1. 1

    Sauté Garlic

In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  2. 2

    Add Tomatoes & Seasonings

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Mix well to combine.

  3. 3

    Simmer Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.

  4. 4

    Finish Sauce

Stir in the chopped fresh basil just before serving. Remove from heat and set aside.

Assemble & Cook

  1. 5

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).

  2. 6

    Layer Ingredients

In a baking dish, spread a layer of the prepared tomato sauce at the bottom. Layer the sliced cooked ham evenly over the sauce, followed by the shredded mozzarella cheese.

  3. 7

    Add More Sauce & Cheese

Pour the remaining tomato sauce over the ham and mozzarella, ensuring everything is well covered. Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese on top.

  4. 8

    Bake

Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the edges are golden brown.

  5. 9

    Cool & Serve

Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
