Tomato Sauce Preparation

Add Tomatoes
Pour in the canned whole tomatoes, including the juice, and break them up with a spoon. Stir to combine with the garlic.

Season the Sauce
Add dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar to the tomato mixture. Stir well and bring to a simmer.

Simmer
Lower the heat and let the sauce simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.
Cheese Preparation

Prepare Mozzarella
While the sauce is simmering, slice the fresh mozzarella cheese into thin rounds.

Grate Parmesan
Using a grater, grate the Parmesan cheese and set it aside.

Prepare Basil
Rinse the fresh basil leaves under cold water, pat them dry with a paper towel, and set them aside.
Assembly

Combine Sauce and Cheese
Once the tomato sauce has thickened, remove it from heat. Spread a layer of the sauce in a baking dish, followed by a layer of sliced mozzarella, then sprinkle with grated Parmesan.

Bake
Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F). Layer more sauce and cheese until all ingredients are used. Finish with a layer of sauce and sprinkle fresh basil on top. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your cheesy tomato delight!
