Method
Churro Dough Preparation
- 1
Combine Wet Ingredients
In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of water, 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter, 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon of salt over medium heat. Stir until the butter is melted.
- 2
Add Flour
Once the mixture is boiling, remove it from heat and immediately stir in 1 cup of all-purpose flour until a dough forms. Return to low heat for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly to dry out the dough slightly.
- 3
Incorporate Eggs
Transfer the dough to a mixing bowl. Let it cool for a few minutes, then add 2 large eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the dough is smooth and glossy.
Frying Churros
- 4
Heat Oil
In a large heavy-bottomed pot, heat 4 cups of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Pipe Churros
Transfer the churro dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Once the oil is hot, carefully pipe strips of dough (about 4-6 inches long) into the hot oil.
- 6
Fry Churros
Fry the churros until they are golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
