Custard
Caramel
Method
Caramel Preparation
- 1
- 2
Cook the Caramel
Allow the mixture to boil without stirring until it turns a deep amber color, about 5-7 minutes. Watch closely to avoid burning.
- 3
Coat the Flan Mold
Quickly pour the caramel into a round flan mold or individual ramekins, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.
Custard Preparation
- 4
Blend the Custard Ingredients
In a blender, combine 4 large eggs, 1 can of sweetened condensed milk, 1 can of evaporated milk, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Blend until smooth.
- 5
Pour the Custard Mixture
Pour the custard mixture over the hardened caramel in the flan mold or ramekins.
- 6
Prepare the Water Bath
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the flan mold or ramekins in a larger baking dish and fill the outer dish with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan mold.
- 7
Bake the Flan
Bake in the preheated oven for about 50-60 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 8
Cool and Refrigerate
Remove the flan from the oven and let it cool at room temperature. Once cool, refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to set.
Serving
- 9
Unmold the Flan
To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan, then invert it onto a serving plate to release the caramel sauce.
- 10
Slice and Enjoy
Slice the flan into wedges, serve chilled, and enjoy your delicious traditional caramel custard dessert.
