Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 2

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter and bittersweet chocolate together over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

  3. 3

    Combine Sugar and Eggs

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar and large eggs until well combined and slightly frothy.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Chocolate Mixture

Gradually add the melted chocolate and butter mixture to the egg and sugar mixture, stirring continuously to combine.

  5. 5

    Add Flour and Vanilla

Sift in the all-purpose flour and add the vanilla extract. Gently fold the mixture until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

  6. 6

    Prepare Ramekins

Grease four ramekins with butter and lightly dust with flour, tapping out the excess. This will prevent the cakes from sticking.

  7. 7

    Fill Ramekins

Evenly distribute the cake batter into the prepared ramekins, filling each about 2/3 full.

  8. 8

    Bake

Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center remains soft.

  9. 9

    Cool and Serve

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool for about 1 minute. Carefully invert each ramekin onto a plate and gently tap to release the cake. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
