Method

Butter Cake

1

Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.

2

Mix Dry Ingredients

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

3

Cream Butter and Sugar

In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.

4

Add Eggs and Vanilla

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Then add the vanilla extract and mix until combined.

5

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture in three additions, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.

6

Bake the Cake

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

7

Cool Slightly

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack. The cake should be served slightly warm.

Housemade Whipped Cream

8

Chill Bowl and Whisk

Place a mixing bowl and whisk or beaters in the freezer for 10–15 minutes before starting to ensure the cream whips properly.

9

Whip the Cream

Pour the heavy cream into the chilled bowl. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Whip on medium-high speed until soft peaks form, about 3–5 minutes. Do not overwhip.

10

Chill Until Ready

Keep the whipped cream chilled in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
