Method

Sauce Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Tomato Sauce

In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  2. 2

    Add Tomatoes

Carefully add the canned whole tomatoes (with their juice) to the saucepan. Use a wooden spoon to break the tomatoes apart slightly.

  3. 3

    Season the Sauce

Stir in salt, black pepper, dried oregano, and sugar. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

  4. 4

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally until slightly thickened.

Pizza Assembly

  1. 5

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 250°C (482°F) or the highest setting.

  2. 6

    Prepare the Pizza Base

Roll out your pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness and shape. Transfer the rolled dough to a pizza stone or baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 7

    Spread the Sauce

Evenly spread the prepared tomato sauce over the pizza base, leaving a small border around the edges.

  4. 8

    Add Mozzarella

Arrange the slices of fresh mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce.

  5. 9

    Bake the Pizza

Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.

  6. 10

    Garnish with Basil

Once out of the oven, immediately top the pizza with fresh basil leaves. Let it cool for a minute before slicing.
