Method

Salad Preparation

  1. 1

    Chop the Vegetables

Start by washing the heirloom tomatoes and cucumber. Chop the heirloom tomatoes into bite-sized pieces and slice the cucumber into thin rounds.

  2. 2

    Assemble the Salad

In a large bowl, combine the chopped heirloom tomatoes, sliced cucumber, and fresh basil leaves. Drizzle with olive oil, and season with salt and black pepper. Toss gently to combine.

Toasted Pumpernickel

  1. 3

    Toast the Bread

In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, add the pumpernickel slices and toast them until they are golden brown and crisp on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.

Balsamic Reduction

  1. 4

    Prepare the Balsamic Reduction

In a small saucepan, combine the balsamic vinegar and honey. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer until it thickens slightly, about 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool.

Assembly

  1. 5

    Plate the Dish

On a serving platter, arrange the salad mixture in the center. Tear the burrata cheese into pieces and place it on top of the salad. Drizzle the balsamic reduction over the burrata and salad. Serve with the toasted pumpernickel on the side.
