Directions
- 1
Prepare the Chicken
In a bowl, combine buttermilk, hot sauce, chili powder, garlic powder, and pepper. Add chicken thighs, cover, and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- 2
Make the Waffle Batter
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, mix milk, eggs, and melted butter. Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.
- 3
Fry the Chicken
Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat. Remove chicken from marinade, dredge in flour, and fry until golden brown and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
- 4
Cook the Waffles
Preheat waffle maker. Pour batter into the waffle maker and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions until golden brown.
- 5
Prepare the Hot Honey Maple Drizzle
In a small saucepan, combine honey and maple syrup. Heat gently and stir until combined. Adjust with more hot sauce if desired.
- 6
Assemble the Dish
Place a waffle on a plate, top with a piece of crispy chicken, drizzle with hot honey maple sauce, sprinkle with gold flakes and sliced scallions.
