Preparation

Mashing

1. Mash the Grains

In a large mash tun, mix the crushed pale malt and crystal malt with 20 liters of hot water at approximately 65°C (149°F). Allow to mash for 60 minutes.

Boiling

2. Boil the Wort

After mashing, sparge the grains and collect the wort in a kettle. Bring it to a boil and add the bittering hops. Boil for 60 minutes.

3. Add Aroma Hops

In the last 15 minutes of boiling, add the aroma hops to the kettle.

Cooling and Fermentation

4. Cool the Wort

After boiling, cool the wort rapidly to yeast pitching temperature (around 20°C or 68°F).

5. Pitch the Yeast

Transfer the cooled wort to a fermentation vessel and pitch the ale yeast. Seal the vessel and allow to ferment for 1 to 2 weeks.

Bottling

6. Bottle the Beer

After fermentation, if using sugar for carbonation, dissolve it in a small amount of water and add to the beer before bottling. Bottle the beer and cap it. Allow it to carbonate for 1-2 weeks.

7. Enjoy

Once carbonated, chill the bottles and enjoy your homemade beer!
