Method
Glass + Garnish
- 1
Prepare glass
If you prefer chilled, place the rocks glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill with ice water while prepping. When ready, discard ice water and add 2–3 large ice cubes to the glass.
- 2
Using a vegetable peeler or sharp knife, cut a long thin ribbon from a seeded cucumber for garnish. If using a lemon twist, peel a strip of lemon zest avoiding the pith and twist to release oils.
Mixing
- 3
Combine ingredients
In a mixing glass or shaker filled halfway with ice, pour 60 ml Hendrick's Gin, 15 ml elderflower liqueur, 15 ml fresh lemon juice, and 7.5 ml simple syrup.
- 4
Shake
Vigorously shake the mixture for about 10–12 seconds until well chilled (if you used a mixing glass without a lid, stir briskly for 20–30 seconds instead).
- 5
Strain
Double-strain (using a Hawthorne and fine mesh) into the prepared rocks glass over the fresh large ice cubes. If you prefer a lighter, spritz-style drink, pour into a highball glass with ice and top with 30 ml sparkling water instead of double-straining into rocks glass.
Finishing Aromatics
- 6
Add 1 dash of Angostura bitters to the top of the cocktail (optional) to add aromatic complexity.
- 7
- 8
Serve immediately with a short stirrer/straw and enjoy.
