Breadsticks

Tomato Sauce

Method

Breadsticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, salt, garlic powder, and dried oregano.

  3. 3

    Combine Mixtures

Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add olive oil and mix well. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the yeast mixture, stirring until combined.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    Let it Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  6. 6

    Shape the Breadsticks

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Punch down the risen dough and roll it into a log. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a stick.

  7. 7

    Bake the Breadsticks

Place the shaped breadsticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with olive oil and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Tomato Sauce

  1. 8

    Sauté Garlic

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  2. 9

    Add Tomatoes

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes and add dried basil, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

  3. 10

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Allow it to cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 11

    Adjust Seasoning

Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed. Remove from heat.
