Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/4-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. In another bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until well combined.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Breadcrumbs

Place the breadcrumbs in a shallow dish. This will be used for coating the onion rings.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 365°F (185°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter into it; it should sizzle immediately.

  2. 5

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off, then coat with breadcrumbs. Press the breadcrumbs onto the onion rings to ensure they stick well.

  3. 6

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully place the coated onion rings in the hot oil, being sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

  4. 7

    Serve

Serve the crispy onion rings hot, with your favorite dipping sauce.
