Method
Preparation
- 1
Wash and Peel Potatoes
Wash the Russet potatoes thoroughly under cold running water. Use a vegetable peeler to remove the skin, if desired, or leave the skin on for extra texture.
- 2
Cut Potatoes
Cut each potato into evenly sized strips, approximately 1/4 inch thick, to ensure they cook evenly.
Pre-frying
- 3
Soak Potatoes
Place the cut potato strips in a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This step helps to remove excess starch, which results in crispier fries.
- 4
Drain and Dry
After soaking, drain the potatoes and lay them out on a clean kitchen towel. Pat them dry thoroughly to remove as much moisture as possible.
Frying
- 5
Heat Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can use a thermometer to check the temperature.
- 6
Fry Potatoes
Carefully add a handful of dried potato strips to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 4-5 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
- 7
Drain and Season
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and let them drain on paper towels. Immediately sprinkle with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika while they are still hot.
- 8
Repeat
Repeat the frying process with the remaining potato strips until all are cooked.
Serving
- 9
Serve Hot
Serve the crispy golden fries hot, optionally with your favorite dipping sauces.
