Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat and Prepare Pans

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add the whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Then slowly add the boiling water and mix until smooth. The batter will be thin.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then remove from the pans and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Directions

  1. 7

    Prepare the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add the unsweetened cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the whole milk. Beat until smooth and fluffy.

  2. 8

    Add Vanilla

Mix in the vanilla extract until well combined.

  3. 9

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of frosting on top, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the cake.

  4. 10

    Serve

Slice the cake and serve. Enjoy your rich chocolate cake!
