Method

Preparing the Patties

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined. Avoid over-mixing to keep the patties tender.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the beef mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent them from puffing up while cooking.

Cooking the Patties

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Pan

Preheat your grill or a skillet over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes for medium doneness.

  3. 5

    Add Cheese

During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and close the grill lid or cover the skillet to melt the cheese.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 6

    Prepare the Buns

While the cheese is melting, slice the burger buns in half and toast them lightly on the grill or in a toaster.

  2. 7

    Build the Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, place a cooked patty topped with melted cheddar cheese. Add lettuce, sliced tomato, onion, and pickles. Drizzle with ketchup and mustard to taste.

  3. 8

    Serve

Close the burger with the top half of the bun, secure it with a toothpick if necessary, and serve immediately.
