Instructions for Making Ginger Beer

1. Prepare the Ginger

Peel and finely grate the fresh ginger root.

2. Make the Ginger Syrup

In a saucepan, combine the grated ginger, sugar, and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Remove from heat and let it steep for about 30 minutes.

3. Combine Ingredients

Strain the ginger syrup into a large mixing bowl, discarding the solids. Add the remaining 2 cups of water, lemon juice, and yeast to the bowl. Stir well to combine.

4. Ferment

Pour the mixture into a clean, airtight container, leaving some space at the top. Seal the container and let it sit at room temperature for 24 to 48 hours, until bubbly.

5. Bottle the Ginger Beer

After fermentation, carefully strain the mixture again into bottles, leaving some sediment behind. Cap the bottles tightly.

6. Chill and Serve

Refrigerate the bottles for at least 2 hours before serving. Serve chilled with lemon slices for garnish.
