For the Mozzarella Sticks

Method

For the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Breading Station

Set up three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mixture of breadcrumbs, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 2

    Bread the Cheese Sticks

First, dip each mozzarella stick in the flour, shaking off excess. Then, dip it into the beaten eggs, allowing excess to drip off. Finally, coat it thoroughly in the breadcrumb mixture. Repeat for all mozzarella sticks.

  3. 3

    Freeze the Breaded Mozzarella Sticks

Place the breaded cheese sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape while frying.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat the oil to 350°F (175°C). You can test the temperature by dropping a small piece of bread into the oil; if it sizzles, it's ready.

  5. 5

    Fry the Mozzarella Sticks

Carefully place the frozen mozzarella sticks into the hot oil in batches, frying for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

For the Marinara Sauce

  1. 6

    Sauté Garlic

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 7

    Cook the Sauce

Add the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar to the saucepan. Stir well to combine and bring to a simmer.

  3. 8

    Simmer and Add Basil

Reduce the heat and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes. Stir occasionally. Just before serving, stir in the chopped fresh basil.
