Method

Meatballs

  1. 1

    Prepare the meatball mixture

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Shape the meatballs

Using your hands, shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 2.5 cm in diameter.

  3. 3

    Cook the meatballs

Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a little olive oil. Once hot, add the meatballs and cook for about 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through.

Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté the onions

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent.

  2. 5

    Add garlic and tomatoes

Add minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute. Then, add the crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.

  3. 6

    Simmer the sauce

Let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.

Focaccia

  1. 7

    Prepare the focaccia

Spread the softened butter over one side of each focaccia slice.

  2. 8

    Toast the focaccia

In a skillet or on a grill pan, place the focaccia slices butter-side down and toast until golden brown.

  3. 9

    Add Parmesan

Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on the toasted side of the focaccia while still hot.

Assembly

  1. 10

    Assemble the dish

Place the toasted focaccia on a plate, top with the cooked meatballs, and ladle marinara sauce over the meatballs.

  2. 11

    Serve

Serve immediately while hot, garnished with additional parsley if desired.
