Method
Bacon Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Bacon
Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the thick-cut bacon until browned but not fully crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the bacon and drain on paper towels.
- 2
Make the Braising Liquid
In a bowl, combine maple syrup, bourbon, brown sugar, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Mix well until the sugar has dissolved.
- 3
Braise the Bacon
Lay the partially cooked bacon in a single layer in a baking dish. Pour the braising liquid over the top. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil.
- 4
Bake
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 2 hours. Remove the foil and increase the oven temperature to 400°F (200°C) and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the bacon is caramelized and crispy.
Cornbread Preparation
- 5
Preheat and Prepare
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease an 8-inch square baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
- 6
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt until combined.
- 7
- 8
Combine and Pour
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- 9
Bake Cornbread
Pour the cornbread batter into the prepared baking dish. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
