Calamari

Serving

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Soak the Calamari

In a medium bowl, add the calamari rings and pour the buttermilk over them. Ensure all rings are submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to tenderize.

Breading

  1. 2

    Prepare the Breading Mixture

In another bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper. Mix well to ensure even distribution of spices.

  2. 3

    Dredge the Calamari

Remove the soaked calamari from the refrigerator. Take each ring, allowing excess buttermilk to drip off, and coat it in the breading mixture. Shake off any excess flour and set aside on a plate.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or pot, pour in the vegetable oil and heat it over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  2. 5

    Fry the Calamari

Once the oil is hot, carefully add a few breaded calamari rings to the oil in batches. Fry for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Serving

  1. 6

    Serve

Arrange the crispy calamari on a serving platter. Serve immediately with lemon wedges and marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
