Cooking Instructions

1. Cook the Pasta

In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

2. Make the Cheese Sauce

In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute, stirring constantly until it forms a roux. Gradually whisk in the milk, continuing to stir until the mixture thickens.

3. Add the Cheeses

Remove the pot from heat and stir in the smoked Gouda and sharp cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Add garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix well.

4. Combine with Pasta

Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce, stirring until all the pasta is well coated.

5. Optional Breadcrumb Topping

If using, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the mac and cheese to a baking dish, sprinkle breadcrumbs on top, and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

6. Serve

Remove from the oven (if baked) and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your smoked Gouda mac!
