Preparation Instructions

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.

  2. 2

    Mix the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, milk, and melted butter. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  5. 5

    Shape Muffins

Punch down the dough and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll out to about 1-inch thickness. Cut with a biscuit cutter or glass.

  6. 6

    Second Rise

Place the cut muffins on a baking sheet sprinkled with cornmeal. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.

  7. 7

    Cook Muffins

Preheat a griddle or skillet over medium-low heat. Cook the muffins for about 7-10 minutes on each side until golden brown.

  8. 8

    Cool and Serve

Remove from heat and let cool on a wire rack. Enjoy toasted with butter or your favorite toppings!
