Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

Chill a coupe or flute by filling it with ice water while you mix the cocktail, or place it in the freezer for 5–10 minutes.

  2. 2

    Mix base

Add 2 oz gin, 0.5 oz elderflower liqueur, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, and 0.5 oz simple syrup to a cocktail shaker.

  3. 3

    Add ice and shake

Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the shaker feels very cold.

  4. 4

    Strain

Discard the ice water from the chilled glass. Using a fine strainer (or double strain with the shaker’s built-in strainer and a fine mesh), strain the shaken mixture into the chilled coupe or flute, leaving room for sparkling wine.

  5. 5

    Top with sparkle

Gently top the cocktail with 2 oz dry sparkling wine (or 2 oz club soda for a lighter, lower-alcohol version). Pour slowly to preserve bubbles and avoid overflow.

  6. 6

    Garnish and serve

Express a lemon twist over the surface to release oils, rub it on the glass rim if desired, then drop it in (or float an edible flower). Serve immediately.
