Filling and Crust

Method

Preparation and Baking

  1. 1

    Prepare the Apple Filling

In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are well coated. Set aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Pie Crust

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Roll out one pie crust and place it into a 9-inch pie pan. Fill the crust with the apple mixture and dot with butter.

  3. 3

    Top the Pie

Cover the pie with the second pie crust, sealing the edges. Cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape. Optionally, you can brush the top crust with an egg wash for a golden finish.

  4. 4

    Bake the Pie

Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the apples are bubbly and the crust is golden brown. If the edges brown too quickly, cover them with foil.

  5. 5

    Serve

Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool slightly. Serve warm with scoops of vanilla ice cream and drizzle with caramel sauce.
