Baked Alaska Ingredients
Method
Baked Alaska Directions
- 1
Prepare the Sponge Cake
Bake a sponge cake according to your favorite recipe or use a store-bought sponge cake. Allow it to cool completely.
- 2
Assemble the Baked Alaska
Place the cooled sponge cake on a baking sheet. Scoop the vanilla ice cream on top of the sponge cake, spreading it evenly. Freeze for at least 1 hour to set.
- 3
Make the Meringue
In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add the granulated sugar, continuing to beat until stiff peaks form.
- 4
Cover the Ice Cream
Remove the sponge cake and ice cream from the freezer. Quickly spread the meringue over the ice cream and sponge cake, ensuring it is sealed completely to prevent melting.
- 5
Bake the Baked Alaska
Preheat your oven to 500°F (260°C). Place the Baked Alaska in the oven for 3-5 minutes, or until the meringue is lightly browned. Watch closely to avoid burning.
- 6
Prepare the Whipped Cream
In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Whip until soft peaks form.
- 7
Serve
Slice the Baked Alaska and serve with fresh mixed berries and whipped cream.
