Latte Base

Toppings (optional)

Method

Prepare Espresso

  1. 1

    Brew Espresso

Using an espresso machine, brew 2 shots of espresso. If you don't have an espresso machine, you can use a stovetop espresso maker or an Aeropress.

  2. 2

    Add Water

If you prefer a lighter latte, dilute the espresso with 1 cup of hot water. This will create an Americano base before adding milk.

Froth the Milk

  1. 3

    Heat the Milk

Pour 1 cup of milk into a small saucepan and heat over medium heat until steaming but not boiling.

  2. 4

    Froth the Milk

Using a milk frother, whisk the heated milk until it becomes frothy and doubles in volume. If you don't have a frother, you can shake the milk in a jar or whisk vigorously.

  3. 5

    Sweeten the Milk

Add 1 tsp of sugar or sweetener and 1 tsp of vanilla extract (if using) to the frothy milk and stir gently to combine.

Assemble the Latte

  1. 6

    Combine Ingredients

In a large mug, pour the brewed espresso (or Americano base) and then add the frothed milk on top, holding back the foam with a spoon.

  2. 7

    Top with Foam

Spoon the remaining foam on top of the latte.

  3. 8

    Add Toppings

Sprinkle with cinnamon or cocoa powder if desired.
