Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until well combined.

  3. 3

    Cream the Butter and Sugar

In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter with the brown and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

  4. 4

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and maple syrup to the butter mixture. Mix well until fully incorporated.

  5. 5

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

  6. 6

    Fold in Add-ins

Gently fold in the chopped nuts, dried cranberries or seasonal dried fruit, and chocolate chips if using.

Baking

  1. 7

    Scoop the Dough

Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each cookie.

  2. 8

    Bake the Cookies

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers may look slightly underbaked but will firm up as they cool.

  3. 9

    Cool the Cookies

Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
