Method

Preparing the Prime Rib

  1. 1

    Season the Roast

Rub the prime rib roast with olive oil, then season generously with kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.

  2. 2

    Roast the Prime Rib

Place the seasoned prime rib in a roasting pan and roast in a preheated oven at 450°F (232°C) for 20 minutes. Then, reduce the temperature to 325°F (163°C) and continue roasting for about 1.5 hours or until the internal temperature reaches 135°F (57°C) for medium-rare.

  3. 3

    Rest the Meat

Remove the roast from the oven, cover it loosely with aluminum foil, and let it rest for at least 20 minutes before slicing.

Making the Au Jus

  1. 4

    Sauté Aromatics

In a saucepan, add a bit of olive oil and sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic over medium heat until softened, about 3-4 minutes.

  2. 5

    Add Broth and Worcestershire

Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer and let cook for 10 minutes to develop flavors.

Preparing the Baguette

  1. 6

    Toast the Baguette

Slice the baguette in half lengthwise. Spread butter on the cut sides and place under a broiler or in a toaster oven until golden brown and crispy.

Making the Horseradish Sauce

  1. 7

    Mix the Sauce

In a small bowl, combine prepared horseradish, sour cream, and lemon juice. Mix well and adjust seasoning to taste.

Assembling the Sandwich

  1. 8

    Slice the Prime Rib

Thinly slice the rested prime rib against the grain.

  2. 9

    Build the Sandwich

Layer the sliced prime rib on the toasted baguette halves, serve with au jus and horseradish sauce on the side for dipping.
