Method

For the Chicken Fried Steak

  1. 1

    Prepare the Breading

In a shallow bowl, combine flour, salt, black pepper, and paprika. In another shallow bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg.

  2. 2

    Bread the Steaks

Dip each beef cube steak into the buttermilk mixture, then dredge in the flour mixture, ensuring a good coating.

  3. 3

    Fry the Steaks

In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the breaded steaks and fry until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.

For the Sausage Gravy

  1. 4

    Cook the Sausage

In a separate skillet, crumble and cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned and cooked through.

  2. 5

    Make the Gravy

Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir well. Gradually add the milk while stirring continuously until the mixture thickens. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

For the Seasonal Vegetables

  1. 6

    Prepare the Vegetables

In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add the mixed seasonal vegetables and cook for 3-5 minutes until tender but still crisp. Drain and return to pot.

  2. 7

    Season the Vegetables

Drizzle olive oil over the vegetables and season with salt and black pepper. Toss to combine and heat through for another minute.

For the Side Dish

  1. 8

    Prepare Mashed Potatoes

Prepare mashed potatoes according to your preferred recipe or package instructions. Keep warm until serving.
