Method
Cooking Pasta
- 1
Boil Water
In a large pot, bring 2 liters of water to a rolling boil over high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the boiling water.
- 2
Cook Spaghetti
Once the water is boiling, add 200 grams of spaghetti. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, until al dente.
- 3
Drain Pasta
Once cooked, reserve a cup of pasta water if needed for the sauce, then drain the spaghetti in a colander. Set aside.
Making Marinara Sauce
- 4
Heat Olive Oil
In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.
- 5
Sauté Garlic
Add 3 minced garlic cloves to the skillet and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
- 6
Add Tomatoes and Spices
Stir in 400 grams of canned crushed tomatoes, 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, 1 teaspoon of dried basil, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Mix well.
- 7
Simmer Sauce
Bring the sauce to a simmer and reduce the heat to low. Let it cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens.
- 8
Combine Pasta and Sauce
If needed, add reserved pasta water to reach desired sauce consistency. Add the drained spaghetti to the sauce and toss to coat evenly.
- 9
Serve
Serve the pasta hot, garnished with 0.5 cups of chopped fresh basil.
