Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix with a wooden spoon until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Assembling the Pizza
- 5
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) while the dough is rising.
- 6
Shape Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into a 12-inch round pizza base.
- 7
Add Sauce and Toppings
Transfer the rolled-out dough to a pizza stone or baking sheet. Slice the ripe tomatoes and arrange them evenly on the dough. Tear the fresh mozzarella into pieces and scatter them over the tomatoes. Drizzle with olive oil, and season with salt and black pepper.
- 8
Bake Pizza
Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
- 9
Garnish and Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, top with fresh basil leaves, and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve hot.
