Preparing the Marinara Sauce

Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer.

Simmer the Sauce
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add fresh basil just before serving.
Preparing the Calamari

Prepare the Dredging Mixture
In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Mix well.

Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Dredge the Squid Rings
Dip each squid ring first in the wet mixture, then coat it with the dredging mixture. Shake off any excess flour.

Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the coated squid rings to the hot oil in batches, frying until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per batch. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Serve the fried calamari hot with the marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
