Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Chicken

In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Add the chicken pieces, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Breading

In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, cayenne pepper, and paprika. Remove chicken from the buttermilk mixture, letting excess drip off, and dredge each piece in the seasoned flour until fully coated.

  3. 3

    Fry the Chicken

In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the chicken pieces in batches, cooking for about 10-12 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  4. 4

    Make the Hot Sauce

In a small saucepan, combine hot sauce and brown sugar over low heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat.

  5. 5

    Coat the Chicken

Once the chicken is fried and drained, brush the hot sauce mixture generously over each piece of chicken.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve the Nashville hot chicken hot, with pickles and white bread on the side, if desired.
