Prepare the Coffee Mixture

Brew 1 cup of espresso coffee and let it cool to room temperature.

In a shallow dish, combine the cooled espresso, coffee liqueur (if using), and sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
Prepare the Mascarpone Mixture

Whisk Egg Yolks and Sugar
In a medium bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and 1 tablespoon of sugar until pale and creamy.

Add Mascarpone and Vanilla
Gently fold in the mascarpone cheese and vanilla extract until smooth.

Whip the Cream
In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.

Combine Mixtures
Fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture gently until well combined.
Assemble the Tiramisu

Dip Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.

Arrange a layer of dipped ladyfingers in the bottom of a rectangular dish.

Spread Mascarpone Mixture
Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.

Repeat the process with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.

Cover and refrigerate the tiramisu for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.
