Method

Burger Patty Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beef Mixture

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the beef mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a round patty, about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent them from puffing up during cooking.

Cooking the Patties

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Skillet

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat or heat a skillet over medium-high heat on the stovetop.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side until a crust forms. Flip the patties and cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium doneness. If using cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.

Burger Assembly

  1. 5

    Prepare the Vegetables

While the patties are cooking, slice the tomato and onion into rings. Tear the lettuce leaves if they are large.

  2. 6

    Assemble the Burger

Toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster. On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by the cooked patty, tomato slices, onion rings, and any desired condiments such as ketchup and mustard. Top with the other half of the bun.
