Patty Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beef Patty

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Shape the Patty

Divide the meat mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties, about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent it from puffing up while cooking.

Cooking the Patty

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Pan

Heat your grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add a little oil to prevent sticking.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patty

Place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on one side until browned. Flip the patties and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes on the other side.

  3. 5

    Add Cheese

In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty. Cover with a lid or a piece of foil to help melt the cheese.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 6

    Prepare the Vegetables

While the patties are cooking, wash the lettuce leaves and slice the tomato into rounds.

  2. 7

    Assemble the Burger

Once the patties are cooked and cheese is melted, toast the burger buns if desired. On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by the cheeseburger patty, then a slice of tomato. Top with the other half of the bun.
