Tiramisu Preparation

Prepare the Espresso
Brew the espresso and allow it to cool. If using, mix in the coffee liqueur.

Whip the Heavy Cream
In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Set aside.

Mix Mascarpone and Sugar
In another bowl, combine the mascarpone cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.

Combine Mixtures
Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully incorporated.

Soak the Ladyfingers
Dip each ladyfinger briefly in the cooled espresso, making sure not to soak them too long.

Layer the Tiramisu
In a rectangular dish, layer half of the soaked ladyfingers on the bottom. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers. Repeat with another layer of soaked ladyfingers and mascarpone.

Chill and Serve
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and garnish with dark chocolate shavings.
